With summertime correct around the corner, it’s time to think about protecting those tresses for your spring and summer vacay. Each year, thousands of travelers and tourists hit the surf and sand to catch up on their golden glow, slathering themselves down with creams of every kind, while their hair gets completely forgotten. Here are my top tips for summertime hair, while maintaining healthy gorgeous locks.

1 – Color hair a week or 2 before your vacay. This gives ample time for hair/color/health to settle & return back to normal pH and allows time to get that color exactly the way you want it before you take to the friendly skies.

2 – Before swimming, wet hair w/ normal tap water & apply a light amount of a daily conditioner or a leave in conditioner. Do not rinse out. This saturates hair shaft and minimizes damage and absorption from salt water or chlorine. I recommend Pureology Hydrate conditioner for this as it will supercoat the hair shaft and help protect it from chlorine or salt water.

3 – Don’t allow chlorine or salt water dry in hair. SHAMPOO & CONDITION IMMEDIATELY after swimming.

4 – Use a light weight leave in conditioner before going out into sun. Look for sunflower (a natural UV defender) in your spray ins. Pureology COLOUR MAX is awesome for this. Just spray in wet, comb through to ensure even distribution and style as normal or let air dry.

5 – Accessorize with hats/scarves or other creative accessories if you’re haunted about color fading. These can be a fun way to dress up your summertime attire, while keeping hair and skin protected in the blazing sun.

6 – Monitor key UV times. This is not only to protect your hair, but your skin as well. The most dangerous times of the day are between 10am and 3pm. While a little sun can be obedient and enjoyable, too powerful can actually be harmful. Check on your local city’s UV index each day and monitor your time spent in the sun.

7 – Ask your salon professional for a clear top coat or glossing treatment before your vacay. Such glossing treatments range anywhere from $45 to $75 and last 3-5 weeks, giving hair great polish & shine. These glossing treatments or clear coat top shines also help protect against color fading and help protect against UV damage.

8 – If you do have chlorine or salt-water build up in your hair, use a clarifying shampoo such as Pureology’s Purify Shampoo or Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three. Ask your stylist how often you should use, to be sure you aren’t overdoing it. If you have more than normal build-up, add a petite baking soda to your clarifying shampoo, leave on for 2-3 minutes, rinse well and then condition.

Every bride wants to be picture-perfect for their big day. You want to look like yourself – but different, more dramatic, novel… it can feel like a big task. Many brides think that because a wedding is such a big day, they have to go big on the makeup. Well, you’ve got the perfect groom, the perfect dress, and the perfect flowers – don’t overshadow that by making your face as grand as the day itself.

Here are some top tips for helping you create a beautiful look that you will adore in your wedding photographs for years to come.

Tip One: Less Is More

Yup, we’ve all got the concept – your wedding is the biggest celebration of the year. Do try to remember, though, that everyone wants to see you, not a radically changed woman masquerading in your wedding gown. If you don’t wear much makeup normally – or none at all – you don’t want to walk down the aisle with a heavily painted face. It won’t seem natural, you won’t be comfortable, and the pictures taken will reflect it (not to mention your memories).

The makeup that you do use should be suitable for flash photography, too. Stick with foundations that have a yellow undertone, as these will create a warm healthy appearance in the photographs that are taken during the wedding and reception. You might also look into a good bronzing powder to warm your skin tone. Apply bronzing powder with a natural bristle brush, lightly applying color to areas of the face that the sun naturally warms. Your forehead, the high curve of your cheeks, and the bridge of your nose are the best places, but if you’re naturally pale you might want to apply a very light dusting over your neck and chest for a more even tone.

Exercise a gel foundation primer before you apply your make-up, but be careful about the powder you use to set everything. A light dusting of loose powder will help prevent unwanted shine (this can result in a greasy, highly reflective look in your photos), but pause away from heavy pressed powders. Too much powder will leave your skin looking chalky, dull and unhealthy in photos.

Tip Two: Glittery Bright

If I were doing a list of Do’s and Don’ts, this tip would top the list of Don’ts.

Right, unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last few years, you know that glitter is all the rage. It’s beyond trendy, and done right can be absolutely beautiful. Five or so years from now, though, will it level-headed be so cool? Probably not. Do you want to look at your wedding photos and see a glittery shiney bride, or would you rather have a timeless, classic and natural face?

Basically, by going with “trends”, you end up dating your photographs. If you’re really stuck on the opinion of glitter, why not procure some special photographs taken before the wedding? Grab the groom, set an appointment, and go glam at the studio, but go for a natural, matte peruse on the big day itself.

Go for warm, flattering cheek colors like peach and rose, and don’t forget about the bronzing powder I mentioned. This will give you a bit of a shine without unflattering glow. When you apply blush, focus on the rounded parts of your cheek and blend the blush assist and up towards the top fragment of your ears. If you have dry skin, you can achieve a natural, dewy glow by using a cream blush – but powder blush will work better on oily skin.

By focusing on blush and bronzer instead of glitter and shine, you’ll avoid looking either washed out or super-bright in your wedding photos. If after all this you still just have to have some glitter on your wedding day, stick to a tiny highlighting on your cheekbones or eyes, not your whole face.

Tip Three: Look-a-Likes

Many brides want to originate a look that’s just like their favorite celebrity’s. Sultry, smokey eyes and the pale lips of J-Lo are often-quated requests to makeup artists.

There’s nothing wrong with finding inspiration from the big names, but make sure that the look you choose works for the theme you’re using. J-Lo looked ample with that pale lip look, but it really won’t go with the whole Victorian theme … you get the idea.

Tip Four: The Eyes Have It

It’s been said that the eyes are the windows to the soul, and this being true, you want your eyes to be a special feature of your whole look.

When you open working on your eyes, start with your brow coloring. Use a slightly darker brow powder or gel than your natural hair color. This will keep them looking their best, and you can fill them in with a pencil in a light shade to create a perfect shape if you need to. Your brows are likely the only thing you won’t have to “touch up” during your wedding day, if you do it this way.

Create lush lashes by using an eyelash curler and a couple coats of mascara. Don’t overshelm your lashes with too powerful mascara though – you don’t want to end up “clumping”. Instead, apply one coat of mascara, allow it to dry completely, and then use an eyelash curler to shape them. If you peaceful think you need a second, apply it after.

Eyeshadow should compliment your natural coloring on your wedding day – try to stay away from unnatural colors like purple and blue, and discontinue closer to warm tan, orange, and pink colors.

Atoosa.com Launches to Legions of Web Fans

Atoosa Rubenstein shook up the publishing world when she announced that she was leaving the helm of Seventeen to focus on building her web presence. And build her web site she did: Atoosa’s MySpace page reflects her having end to 44,000 friends as of this printing.

Now Atoosa has launched Atoosa.com – a new website from the woman who boldly declares that the next Oprah will not come to life via television, but through the internet – with followers gleaned in the social-networking type of world that exists today.

Atoosa.com is the first step in Atoosa Rubenstein’s multimedia empire, a digital kingdom that will exist around a person – Atoosa – and her audience of mostly young women from 13 to 30 who leave her fawning and gushing comments on her blog.

“I saw what was coming,” Atoosa told BusinessWeek, referring to the recognition that newspapers and print magazines are falling away in droves as young readers lift to gather their news, gossip and fashion trends via the net.

“What I want to do is gather my tribe,” Atoosa continued, “the ones reading Seventeen, and the ones who were, and grew out of it.”

The tribe is indeed starting to gather, as a speedy Google blog search on the term Atoosa.com is beginning to attest. But Atoosa.com is just the beginning for this 35-year-old wunderkind who hails from Tehran, Iran, and came to the United States feeling like an outsider, unable to articulate a word of English

The Atoosa.com founder found her niche when she entered the magazine world and moved up the ranks from fashion assistant at Cosmopolitan in 1993, eventually becoming a senior fashion editor in 1998.

Hearst Magazines President Cathleen Black then tapped into Atoosa’s brain and asked Rubenstein to approach up with a concept for a new girl’s glossy. Only a couple of days later Atoosa presented the opinion for CosmoGirl!

Cleaning Up After My Seventeen Year Old- the Worst Household Chore!

Like something out of a “Tate modern” art gallery display, I face the daunting sight of my seventeen year worn son’s room daily. Mother’s will know where I’m coming from! Listed below are my worst household chores, courtesy of my son.

1: The strewn bedroom: Each day, a new display of littered clothes that fail to find their way into the laundry basket. These clothes have an affinity for the floor, surrounded by random sweet papers, forgotten school books and discarded dvds. This horrid chore takes me a good twenty minutes tidying up before I finally get to sort out the washing.Then there’s the sorting out of skinny jeans to be turned inside out and the careful selection of colours, all to be grouped for their exodus to the unknown domain of the kitchen and utility room!

2. Armchairs of washing: Once the clothes are sorted, they are carried by the armchair full to the washing machine. Forget the label instructions! My son, whose never reads any wash labels, assures me of the importance of getting his clothes just right!The designer labels, the skinny jeans, the underwear brigade of socks and pants that never seem to arrive in time for the next day’s wear. He never tells me when his underwear are “unbiased” about to run out! Then, there’s a midnight dash to the descend drier, through lashings of rain across the grassy garden, sodden and soggy feet whilst his are tucked up cosy and warm in his now tidy bed.Miracles can happen! Mother’s construct them happen everyday!

3. The discarded plate: Not just a regular offender in his bedroom, teenage boy/man cannot carry a plate/cup/glass to the kitchen and forget the diswasher! You’re joking if you think someone who can understand mechanical designs can actually switch one on! Horrid job number three – searching for those missing crockery items throughout the house, everywhere! They nest, root and accumulate stuck( yes, literally) to all sorts od household attire. Worst case scenario is after leaving teenage boy/man to himself for a weekend. Then, you need a crow bar!

4. Cooking or not: Not! How can a seventeen year old cook? With great distaste for use of hands, it’s very impossible! Best to yell mum she’s the best cook in the world, eh?

5. Cleaning? Ha, Ha, Ha: Does not exist in his vocabularly but, over powers mine. I dislike cleaning up his sticky glasses, cups with welded on coffee, plates with even stickier pickle and there’s the ones that tip over and I get to clean the mess up!Scrubbing carpets, hidden stains below furniture and in corners the scratched laminate floor. Yes, a real feast of extra curriculum chores that add to an already top heavy deck!

Yes, I hate cleaning up after my seventeen year old son, but, here’s the catch – I love him to bits!

Benefit Smokin’ Eyes Palette

They say,

I say,

Retailing at $68(AUD) this nifty little palette contains not only all you need to create that smoldering smokey eye but is also versatile enough for many other looks. I was originally planning on creating a smokey recognize with the palette, but then I realized that since it already contains instructions to in a cute booklet I might as well show you that it can be used for other looks too.

Both the eye bright and pencil liner can be used as base shadows or the original intended use as a highlight and liner. The shadows can be used all together to design a smokey eye or individually to create other looks. Having added the brow wax, ‘tweezies’ and dual ended applicator this is also a great idea if you are staying overnight somewhere or traveling. All else you would need would be a multi-purpose lip and cheek product, such a poise-tint, mascara and maybe a gloss or a balm.

I really wanted to do a Sophia Loren look and I also wanted to indicate you that palettes can be passe for other looks than intended.

Prom Makeup Tips

A prom is a very special time in a girl’s life. Every year an astronomical amount of money is spent on prom dresses, shoes and hair. Everyone wants that perfect once in a lifetime gape. But before you step out on the town, don’t forget to glamorize your makeup. It could make or break that special look.

The following six tips will guarantee you that standout look you’re after. But remember, making your face look special doesn’t mean it needs to look cheap and gawdy. You want to look fresh and flirty, not old and trampy.

First, you need to commence with a light liquid foundation, nothing too heavy or too murky. Stick with a color that compliments your skin tone. Going darker doesn’t gain you look tanned, just colorblind. Apply it evenly, blending upward and outward. Don’t forget to blend it around your chin and neck.

After your foundation, you’ll tackle your eyes. For a more pronounced look, use eyeliner on you upper and lower lids. Draw a thin line, following your lash line as a guide. For a natural examine, exercise a brown or black line to match your eyelashes and eyebrows. For a more dramatic witness, choose a colored liner. Be careful not to earn the line too thick or it will close up your eyes.

After lining your eyes, you’ll apply your eye shadow. A popular trend in today’s makeup is the luminous frosty eye shadows. These would examine elegant for your special night. Apply the shadow to your lid using a sponge tip applicator. Make sure to apply it to the plot right under your brow also. Then for a shadowing effect, go attend over your crease with a darker shade of the same color. Remember when choosing an sight color, it should compliment your skin color and not clash with your clothes or lip color.

Now that your eyes are sparkling, it’s time to spice up your lips. Decide a lip liner color that matches either your lips or your lipstick color. To shape and define your lips, start at the dip in the middle of your lip and outline to the waste. Repeat doing the other side. Then line the lower lip, going from one end to the other. It’s optional if you fill in the lip with you lip liner or just let your lipstick do it.

Follow up with your lipstick. For formal occasions, employ a color that is either darker or brighter than your lips. Save your neutral natural colors for your everyday look. After applying your lipstick, blot the excess on a tissue. If you like lip-gloss, go light. Nothing looks worse than having lipstick or lip-gloss all over your cup or your date’s cheek.

After your eyes and lips look spectacular, lightly brush a light colored blush on your cheek. Initiate near your nose and sweep outwards to your ears. A light color is all you’ll need. You’ll supply enough color to your cheeks on your own.

After achieving your desired watch, step out, show off, and have fun!

Create a Smokey Eye in Ten Minutes or Less

Creating a perfectly sensual smokey eye is easier than you thought! Follow these 5 steps to master the art of the smokey eye, known as the “little black dress” of makeup!

Step 1: Prime.

If you have never used an eyeshadow primer before, now is the time to start! Shadow primers are made to prevent creasing (the gross lines that can form when eyeshadow clumps together after a few hours of wear) and bring out the true pigment of any color. With a primer you are able to use less product and avoid touch-ups throughout the day. Two of my favorites are Urban Decay’s Primer Potion and Benefit’s Lemon-Aid. While both are marvelous for priming any shadows, Lemon-Aid has the added benefit of color-correcting your eyelids! Whichever primer you use, it’s important to remember that a little bit goes a long way- sweep primer over lids from lash line to crease and under lower lash line as well.

Step 2: Line

Using a black eyeliner (preferably one with a creamy texture, such as Urban Decay’s 24/7 Eye Pencil in Zero or Sephora’s Nano Eyeliner in Black) draw a line from inner corner to outer corner on top lid, staying close to the lash line. Don’t worry about how straight or neat the line is- we’re going to smudge it out anyways! Start with one eye first (until you have perfected the look) to prevent the liner from drying before you have time to smudge it. Take a small eyeshadow brush with dense bristles (I suggest Sephora Smudge Brush #14) and blend liner upward, focusing on pulling color up toward the crease. Earn sure the color remains darker at the lash line and fades upward, creating the appearance of a sunset, not a parfait! Repeat this on the other discover, then mimic the application underneath the look. You decide how smokey you want the leer to look on the lower lash line- blend further downward with the liner to create more depth, or simply smudge the liner back and forth to withhold it subtle.

Step 3: Shade

This step allows the liner to fully set in place and give you a more flawless, finished appearance- lift a darkly colored shadow (I prefer dim or deep purple for the most classic look; try Kat Von D’s Beethoven Shadow Palette, which features both colors) and apply a small amount to an eyeshadow brush made for blending. Decide a brush that has smaller sized bristles, as we don’t want the color to move any higher than your natural crease-line. My favorite is Sephora’s Shrimp All-Over Shadow Brush- it has natural bristles to absorb some of your color, and is mild big enough to obtain blending super easy! Tap out excess shadow color and launch applying color to the center of the eyelid, good above the original eyeliner line but not higher than halfway from the crease to lashes. Blend brush back and forth, repeating this step on the other eye. A trick I’ve learned to acquire blending easier is to stop when the amount of color you want has been deposited, wipe your brush clean with a tissue, and blend in the same area again to move color upward and create more of a faded effect up to the crease. Swipe your Shadow brush under the lower lash line to set liner and enhance the appearance of fading. Remember, sunset, not a parfait!

Step 4: Define

My accepted beauty trick for defining and making eyes of any color pop- lining the inner rim! Sharpen your black eyeliner again (this ensures the eye area will remain clean and not irritated) and draw right along the fleshy share of your top and bottom inner rims, all the way to the inner and outer corners. If it is difficult for you to master this, color the bottom rim a shrimp thicker and blink hard- this moves color to the upper rim and evens out your liner overall. For sensitive eyes or contact lens-wearers, try an eyeliner from a hypoallergenic line, such as Tarte’s EmphasEyes High Definition Eye Pencil or the #1S Black Glance Pencil from Korres (another liner sizable for smudging and defining).

Step 5: Finish

Your Smokey Eye cannot be complete without the final step- Mascara! Skip curling lashes, even if you do so regularly. The idea is to fan out the lashes and focus on outer corners, which brightens and opens the eye (curling can sometimes have the opposite effect). Layer as much as your mascara lets you. For extremely thick, dark, long lashes, try my absolute favorite: Sephora’s Atomic Volume Mascara in Ultra Black. You won’t need to layer more than twice, and the brush has a longer, thin side to pull through any clumps and really separate the lashes. Skip applying mascara to the very inner corner lashes on top and bottom- this can take away from the enact of the sultry smokey eye.

There you have it, 5 Steps to a great look in under 10 minutes! Now that you have mastered your perfect smokey eye, enjoy it! Be proud of your success and awesome talent- your friends will envy you. Holiday Party Makeup Tips

These tips are not for the office holiday party but for going out and having a great time with friends or significant others.

Makeup Look One : Pin-Up Santa Gal

This look goes best with a dusky or red dress with heels. Start with a valid foundation and powder extensively to get that china girl look. Exercise a vanilla colored eyeshadow on the lid and brow bone. Utilize a slightly darker shade of brown or taupe on the crease. Line the top lid of the eye only with black liquid eyeliner. Make sure to bring the end of the line outside the eye about 2mm and arched toward the demolish of the eyebrow. Apply at least three coats of mascara to finish off your eyes. Follow with a red cheek stain applied very lightly to the apples of the check. Line your lips with a nude or red pencil and apply a radiant red shade of your favorite lipstick.

Makeup Look Two : Holiday Fairy

This look goes best worn with a pink or green holiday dress or blouse with jeans. Your foundation for this look should have a mineral base to it such as Mac Factor mineral foundation. Use a turquoise liner around the eyes on the top lid and bottom lid. Apply a dusting of light green eyeshadow with sparkles in it around the lid and to the crease of the eye. Apply a vanilla shade of shimmer to the brow bone for a finished look. Use a peach shade of blush and apply to the apple of the cheeks and follow with a nude or peach shade of lipstick.

Makeup Look Three : Ice Cold Princess

This perceive is worn the best with a purple or white holiday dress and is the most daring of them all. Start with a lilac shade of eyeshadow on the lid. Next apply a deep purple shade on the crease. Apply shaded to the outer corner of the lid. Apply a shimmer white to the top brow bone to highlight this look. Using a black eyeliner pencil line the top lid and outside corner of the bottom lid. Smudge the liner to give it a even search for. Apply a couple coats of shadowy mascara to polish off the look. Use a extremely light pink blush and apply very lightly to the top of the apples of the cheeks. Finish with a light pink almost white color of lipstick.
